It could not be old. It can also be a bad ground on the unit. Sounds like one of the links on the screen can be unreliable. If under warranty, you must return it if you can not crack open and take a look at you, but do not make it easy for themselves

Screen may be faulty or it is causing a wire loose in the back of the head unit thats the error
